Jill is the Bernard M. Oliver Chair for SETI Research (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California. In 2004, Time magazine called her one of the 100 most prominent individuals on the planet. She is in charge of creating the term “brown dwarf” for stars that do not have sufficient mass to maintain hydrogen combination. Jodie Foster played a lady who does what Tarter does in the 1997 film Contact, adjusted from Carl Sagan’s novel of the same name.
